Black Copper Marans
Black Copper Marans
Limit 1 dozen Black Copper Marans eggs per order. Marans are known for their large dark reddish brown eggs.
2021 was the first year offering Black Copper Marans dozens and half dozens. We have been selecting our breed stock since 2018. Our egg shade is between 5-8 on the Marans shade card, and note that egg shade does lighten as the birds lay throughout the year and move closer to molting. Marans do not lay every day.
Black Copper Marans • With every generation, we strive for quality birds. We are breeding for type, temperament, and egg color. Egg color should always be a minimum of a 4 on the Marans color chart, but we prefer them to be a 5 or better.
When hatching black copper marans, we wait until day 17, otherwise there is not much to see. On day 17, the air cell will be quite visible.
We are members of the Marans Chicken Club USA, and The Marans Club. We use the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection - as a guide.
We let many roos grow out for ten months before choosing one for the breeding program. It’s suggested that “slow maturing cockerels are often the best ones in our experience.” and we have seen that to be true. Always a work in progress!
