INCUBATING EGGS

Please add a thermometer + hygrometer for a second opinion. I do not suggest incubating eggs and only trusting what the incubator says. There’s several to choose from on Amazon: Govee makes a few different sizes + can set temp and humidity + track on phone + phone notifications.

Please have your incubator on for 12-24 hours prior to adding eggs - that are room temperature.

TABLETOP INCUBATORS

If you’re looking to hatch eggs - Let’s do some comparisons! I love incubators with options - the GQF Hovabator 1588 with an auto turner holds 40 eggs - it keeps the eggs upright (ideal for shipped eggs). You can later add other racks for peafowl, or ducks (best set horizonal).

Brinsea is a trusted customer favorite - and for many, worth the investment.

Other customer favorites include: MATICOOPX and Chickcozy 20 eggs for $100-150.

We hatch on a larger scale, and primarily use GQF 1502 + 1550 Cabinet Incubators + Hatchers - and set weekly batches.

EGG CANDLER

We have been using the rechargeable Magicfly Egg Candler for many years! We candle no sooner than Day 7, and we wait until Day 17 to candle olive eggs + marans.

HATCHING • FROM EGG TO CHICK

Cath Andrews on Hatching! Great advice pre-incubation, and during incubation! She also provides a day by day look from egg to chick, and much info about concerns.

CHICK HOBBLE

Splayed leg happens occasionally, and we keep these on hand. The chick will look like it’s doing a split, fresh out of the incubator. They should wear the hobble for 4-7 days. You could also look up how to make one with some house hold items you may already have.

WHERE TO TEST FOR WORMS

If you’d like to check for worms, prior to deworming we recommend sending fecals to MidAmerica Agricultural Research, INC. they’re a veterinary parasitology laboratory. It’s the most cost efficient option we have found, for sure! (Locally they’re $55.00/one)
