Delaware (10 Chick Special)
Delaware (10 Chick Special)
NEW for 2024. (Straight Run) The Delaware makes a great dual purpose bird! We wanted to add a breed for both eggs and meat quality, that match self sufficiency.
Delaware are on the Livestock Conservancy (*now Recovering list). “The breed came about in the 1940s. Delaware are noted for their rapid growth and fast feathering. Their combs, wattles, earlobes are red, their eyes are reddish bay, and their beak is reddish horn or yellow. Their legs and feet are yellow. They look like no other in our flock with their white feathers, and black barring on the hackles and primary and secondary feathers and tail.”
Males 8lbs / Females 6lbs. They start to lay at 5 months / 200 large to jumbo brown eggs a year. Temperament/ Gentle. Note: This breed is not known for being broody.
We harvest our meat birds Bresse & Delaware at 18-20 weeks.
